• If you have tear in the perineum, the midwife or the doctor will examine the extent of the tear. They will palpate the sphincter with the index finger in the rectum and the thumb on the vaginal opening. Simultaneously can the contractile capacity of anal muscles be controlled. If the diagnose is uncertain the tear should be examined in the operating theathre.
  • The tear will be sewn in operating theatre where they have better resources and conditions. You will get an optimal anesthesia, often an epidural/spinal.
  • How soon after the delivery the surgery will take place depends on the circumstances. It is not possible to do it immediately.
  • You will get analgesic if needed.
  • You should take care of your stomach on a regular basis and avoid hard stool. Therefore medication for this is recommended as well.
